Bush Textile: A Dialogue of Two Regions

Yumi Harada

As autumn sets in across London, the chill in the air makes you reach for something warm without the heavy, restrictive feeling of a standard winter coat.

Enter our Flannel Wool-Cotton Overcoat, crafted from a unique textile named "Bush" born through a collaboration between two of Japan’s iconic textile hubs: Banshu and Bishu.

Named after the rich depth and quiet of deep greenery, Bush is all about understated warmth. Banshu (Hyogo) brings its 200-year expertise in high-density weaving, while Bishu (Aichi) adds its mastery in wool finishing.

What makes Bush so special starts at the source. We use traceable, mulesing-free 16.5-micron ultra-fine wool from the alpine regions around Mount Cook in New Zealand’s South Island. Carefully woven at high density, this rare wool becomes a delicate flannel that feels incredibly light, soft, and naturally springy.

It’s smooth to the touch, yet holds pockets of warm air within its brushed weave. The result a gentle layer that keeps you cozy on cold days without ever feeling heavy.

Even where it can’t be seen, the details are uncompromising. The lining is tailored from 100% pure Banshu-ori cotton, offering a breathable, soft layer against the skin while preventing static—ensuring the interior feels just as refined as the exterior.

Designed and made entirely in Japan, this Flannel Wool-Cotton Overcoat reflects what kasane is all about: bringing rare, thoughtfully made Japanese craftsmanship directly into your everyday wardrobe.
